Porolis Technologies (Porolis) showcased its AI-powered solutions targeted at the gem and jewellery industry in two major international exhibitions in Colombo and Ratnapura in Jan-2024 and Jun-2024 respectively.

The events were organised by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority Sri Lanka (NGJA) in collaboration with various gem traders and mining associations, and attracted a diverse array of exhibitors and visitors from around the world.

The exhibitions provided extensive networking opportunities for industry professionals and Porolis fostered numerous international connections in the gem and jewellery industry.

Porolis shared comprehensive information about its latest product, the gemstone imaging device, GemLUX® KROMA™. This state-of-art analytical device captures in detail gemstone’s appearance, magnified inclusion and optical properties. The sample handling, illumination and camera system of KROMA™ has been specially designed to ensure that the gemstone colour is faithfully and accurately captured. Further, KROMA™ ’s high-resolution lens and camera-sensor design is capable of viewing the microscopic inclusion of the gemstone. When coupled to the AI-powered application, GemLUX®, on the cloud, the system is capable of aiding gemmologists to assess gemstone colour, detect treatment and generate the unique finger-print of individual gemstones.  

One of the highlights of Porolis participation in FACETS Sri Lanka was the engagement with Hon Dr Ramesh Pathirana, the Minister of Industries, when he visited Porolis booth. Porolis CEO Vincent Wong highlighted the innovations in the industry especially in the areas of gemstone assessment using AI-powered solutions. The Minister was impressed with the strong technical collaboration between Porolis from Singapore and GIC Gem-lab from Sri Lanka, and this underscores the growing importance of digitization of the gemstone sector to improve productivity and transparency.
