Soft launch of KROMA™ at FACETS 2025 Trade Show in Colombo attracts Gemstone Traders pressing for more Transparency in the Industry

Porolis Technologies (Porolis) officially introduced to the gemstone industry its advanced photomicrographer device KROMA™ at the FACETS 2025 Exhibition in Colombo held from 3-6 Jan 2025.

This state-of-art analytical device captures in detail gemstone’s appearance and magnified inclusion. The illumination and camera system of KROMA™ has been specially designed to ensure that the gemstone colour is faithfully and accurately captured. Further, KROMA™ ’s high-resolution lens and camera-sensor design is capable of viewing the microscopic inclusion of the gemstone. When coupled to the AI-powered cloud-based application, GemLUX®, the system will empower all stakeholders across the entire value-chain to assess gemstone colour, detect treatment and generate the unique finger-print of individual gemstones.

Porolis inventor and engineer Chan Yee Ning, demonstrated the functions of KROMA™ and attracted significant visitor traffic to Porolis’ booth. In particular, gemstone traders were highly impressed with the high-quality videos of gemstones, both cut and rough, that will enhance transparency significantly in the trade. Until today, buyers and sellers rely on basic tools like the loupe or mobile phones to assess gemstone quality and capture its images under poor and inconsistent conditions. With KROMA™, gemstones videos are acquired faithfully and shared through the cloud with no tweaking of the digital pixels.

Besides selling the KROMA™ device and subscription to its cloud-based GemLUX® system, Porolis will also offer the solution as a service. It plans to open its first GemLUX® Xperience outlet in Beruwela Sri Lanka in Q3-2025, to scan gemstone for traders at a small fee. Users will own the video file and also download a basic AI-powered gem-report. Presently the basic gem-report will only be filled with limited AI-inferred parameters, but Porolis engineers are training more AI-models to progressively extend its cognitive capabilities to assess gemstone to the skill level of a junior gemmologist.

The President of Sri Lanka, Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake, visited the Porolis booth and was highly enthused on how Singapore and Sri Lanka are advancing research and has successfully launched the application of AI in the gemstone industry. The progressive President had recently formed the Digital Economy Authority to regulate the digital sector, with the aim of fostering technological innovations and attracting investments in AI, robotics and fintech.
